Our Experts' Project Experience
Wildfire Residue and Smoke Impact Claims: Supported insurers in evaluating alleged human health risks and property impacts associated with residual chemicals, smoke residues, and contaminants following major wildfires in Napa and Los Angeles Counties. Work included review of environmental sampling data, evaluation of exposure pathways, and risk characterization to inform scientific assessment of claimed impacts and remediation needs.
Post-Wildfire Soil Impact Evaluation: Conducted a focused soil evaluation for an insurance matter involving alleged wildfire-related impacts to soils at a residential property in Pacific Palisades. Work included review of prior sampling data, development and implementation of a depth-resolved soil sampling approach, analysis of CAM 17 metals, comparison of surface and subsurface concentrations, spatial evaluation of metal distributions, and risk-based screening to assess whether elevated arsenic levels were consistent with wildfire deposition or site-specific background and legacy soil conditions.
Methamphetamine Residue Claims: Provided technical support in an insurance matter involving alleged exposure to methamphetamine residues in a multi-unit residential setting. Work included evaluation of chemical residue data, exposure reconstruction, and assessment of potential health risks associated with reported contamination.
Protein Fire Impact Investigation: CContributed to an insurance-related investigation of a residential protein fire and associated odor claims on behalf of counsel and the property insurer. Work included review of sampling data for PAHs and VOCs, evaluation of potential malodor sources, assessment of the weight and consistency of evidence regarding lasting property impacts, and development of technical recommendations regarding remediation.
